OLN to be the 'Happiest Place on Earth'

Dear Parents, Friends and Families,

Welcome back! I hope and pray that you all had a fabulous holiday and feel energised for 2018! I look forward to hearing of your adventures and holiday stories, but beware, I also have plenty of tales to tell! I can assure you that I am full of energy and excitement for the year ahead and what we can build on and achieve as a community, so be prepared for another sunshiny year!

Before school returned, the Leadership Team and myself, had the pleasure of attending the system ‘Big Day Out’ at Rosehill and we were blessed to listen to Bishop Vincent speak of his vision for Catholic Education in the Parramatta Diocese during 2018. Thankfully Greg Whitby’s address also confirmed and reiterated the same message as the Bishops’. Here are a few thoughts from the day:

  • Catholic Education is an expression of God’s radical love!

  • The point of Catholic Education is to focus on the formation of our students, the whole student, and to lead communities of compassion and hospitality, that serve. We should be focused on growing the Kingdom of God.

  • t’s about communities and relationships. It’s about being pilgrims and people of God.

  • Are we continually asking questions to challenge ourselves & our students? Are we encouraging curiosity?

  • How are we catering for students who walk a different path? Let’s get curious about this and ask the questions, that will lead us to transform our practice to engage and grow ALL students!

  • If you are not missed, you don’t belong. Relationships are key!

Powerful thoughts, I’m sure you’d agree and the sunshine here, is that this was and is our focus at OLN - sharing our sunshine. This year I’d love to keep our sunshine at the forefront of all that we do, with a stronger emphasis on how we can be more of service to others. Putting the needs of others before our own - how can we use our sunshine to make OLN the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’ (please note the Disney reference - I saw no movies, but certainly went to Disney, so watch out for Mickey and Minnie to feature this year).

Here’s to another fabulous year at OLN working with a passionate team of committed colleagues keen to cater for all their students; extraordinary students enthusiastic to learn and take care of each other; and of course a supportive parent community, committed to ensuring the best for their children.

With sunshine,

Lisa Samojlowicz
